Welcome In!
Think of illumos.cafe as your local gathering place for everything related to illumos-based operating systems - SmartOS, OmniOS, Tribblix, OpenIndiana and friends. It's more than a collection of services; it's a warm, volunteer-run space for conversation, learning, and community.
Inspired by the inclusive spirit of communities like the BSD Cafe, we keep things pro, not against. Our approach is collaborative and constructive: we build, we share, and we welcome everyone.
For more information and details, you can read the article where the project was presented.
Why We're Here: Fighting Monoculture
This cafe is a sister project to BSD Cafe, founded on the belief that technological diversity is essential. In a world dominated by a few mainstream platforms, we're here to prove that robust, reliable, and innovative alternatives don't just exist - they thrive.
We provide a space where choice and creativity flourish, ensuring that the rich tapestry of computing continues to grow.
What's on Tap?
Everything we serve is brewed on our own illumos infrastructure.

☕ Meet Your Barista
Every great Italian bar has a *barista* at its heart - someone who not only serves the coffee but sets the tone. Here, the Barista (Stefano Marinelli) is your host. His job is to keep the servers running smoothly, the conversations flowing, and the space welcoming for everyone.
This cafe is a place for people, not just for machines.
